Villa Isola Bandung

Villa Isola is building villas located in the northern suburb of Bandung. Located on high ground, on the left side of the road to Lembang (Jln. Setiabudhi), the building was used by the Teachers' Training College (Institute of Teacher Training and Education) in Bandung, which is now the University of Education Indonesia-UPI). Villa Isola is one of Art Deco architecture style buildings which are often found in Bandung.

Villa Isola was built in 1933, owned by a wealthy Dutchman named Dominique Willem Berretty. Then used as building luxury homes are sold and became part of the Hotel Savoy Homann. Subsequent developments, he made IKIP Building (now UPI) and used as an office Rectorate.

A special publication in the Dutch East Indies for the villa was written by Ir. W. Leimei, a Dutch architect. In this publication, Leimei said that in Batavia when urbanization is taking place, many people set up a villa in the suburbs with classic architectural styles but always adapt well to the natural and ventilation, windows and hallways that serve as thermal insulation of the sun. It is also embraced by the Villa Isola in Bandung. During the Japanese occupation, this building was used as a temporary residence of Gen. Hitoshi Imamura eve Kalijati Agreement with the Government of the Netherlands last Indies in Kalijati, Subang, in March 1942. This building was built on the design of Dutch architects who worked in the Netherlands Indies Charles Prosper Wolff Schoemaker.

This building of modern architecture by incorporating the concept of the traditional Javanese philosophy of architecture north-south cosmic wheelbase as the Main Building ITB and Sate Building. Cosmic orientation is reinforced by the elongated park in front of this building which is perpendicular to the transverse axis of the building kearang Mount Tangkuban Perahu. Section villa overlooking the north and south is used for bedrooms, living room and dining room, each equipped with wide glass windows and doors, so that residents can enjoy the beautiful scenery around. Beautiful scenery can also be observed from the terraces that take advantage of reinforced concrete flat roof above the third floor.

In the rear garden there is a pond with a pergola for orchids, roses and equipped with tennis courts. In front of the far north are placed separately from the main building services unit consists of a garage for several cars, house driver, waiter, warehouses and others.

The gate entrance to the villa complex is made of stone combined with iron to form horizontal and vertical planes. Once through the gate and paved road that is wide enough, there is a main entrance which is protected from heat and rain with a flat portal of reinforced concrete. Following the arches on the wall, floor plans arched portals also form part of the circle on the right side. Tip of the intersection of two arches supported by a single column that is similar to the Toraja house (tongkonan).
